Election Materials Proofreader (Full‑Time Seasonal Extra‑Help) The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is looking for a dedicated Proofreader to support the upcoming June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election . This nonpartisan position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the integrity and transparency of the electoral process. Responsibilities Proofread and copy‑edit election materials from start through established election deadlines. Review, edit, and proofread documents for accuracy, context, readability, and syntax. Work remotely with equipment provided by the Division; provide two days of on‑site work at the end of the assignment for final physical material proofs. Maintain accurate files and records, and use spreadsheets to track file and task progress. Prioritize work, coordinate multiple activities simultaneously, and execute oral and written directions. Qualifications Education : Bachelor’s degree or higher in proofreading, editing, journalism, translating, literature, or a related field. Experience : At least six months of proofreading and/or translating experience in English (or the applicable language). Professional background in proofreading, editing, journalism, translating, creative or technical writing. Technical Skills : Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and OneNote; familiarity with SharePoint and OneDrive; experience with or aptitude for Microsoft Teams or equivalent video‑conferencing software. Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Work Conditions Office hours are 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The position requires weekend and evening work assignments, sometimes on short notice, and continuity until the election on June 2, 2026. Hourly wage: $33.44. The role is an extra‑help, at‑will assignment; hours vary week to week and are capped at 1,040 hours per fiscal year. Some positions may be eligible for ACA benefits.
